AFAS 485 allows students to gain instruction online and via a 2-week hands-on stay in the Caribbean to bring to life the people and their traditions. With particular interest in the food, music, dance, literature, architecture, cityscape, tourism, sport, religion and politics of the locale, the course will utilize immersive programming when visiting the islands of Trinidad and Tobago. This program will be conducted in collaboration with The University of the West Indies and the National Trust of Trinidad and Tobago. More than enhancing student learning at local sites, this class will give those interested in working as professionals in the Caribbean, the ability to network in the region and offer an introduction to ethnographic research. This program is well suited to individuals with an interest in the region, AFAS majors and minors as well as students pursuing a certificate or graduate courses in the Humanities and Social Sciences.
